Indian political leaders are staying active on social media platform, Twitter. This microblogging site offers a wider reach and less time-consuming than physical campaigning. It is already known that most of the politicians on Twitter have millions of followers. However, the latest reports suggest anything but that.
The latest news is that Indian politicians like Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi have more fake followers than real. Rahul stands on the top of the list with 69 % of his 6.15 million followers being fake. Amit Shah and Shashi Tharoor stand 2nd and 3rd on the list. Prime minister of India, Modi comes in fourth with 61 % of his 41 million followers being fake.
The leaders take it upon themselves to look bigger than they actually are. Adding fake followers and boasting of huge follower base can really yield nothing, say political experts.
Internationally, Pope Francis has the highest fake follower percentage with 48 %. Top singer, Katy Perry, Hilary Clinton, and Donald Trump come 2nd, 3rd, and 4th on the list respectively.
