Boston Dynamics, a tech company that develops futuristic robots has recently released 2 clips of their latest developments. Named Atlas and SpotMini, these robots are equipped with a self-navigating system that gives them the ability to work their way around obstacles.
SpotMini, a humanoid robot is seen navigating through what looks like a park and jumps through a clog of wood, an indication that the robot uses cameras to gather data about the surroundings. Boston Dynamics stated that the robot will function on its own once the operator presses the button ‘GO’. This makes things clear that these robots do not need human assistance while functioning.
On the other hand, Atlas is seen walking through an office. This robot looks like a compact and can be used for assistance jobs in mid-sized offices. Atlas has a navigation map equipped in it, giving this robot a blueprint of the office. Also, Atlas has obstacle avoidance data prefixed in it, this indicates that Atlas can come up with alternate solutions for going past the obstacles.
Tech genius, Elon Musk, tweeted that “This is nothing. In a few years, that bot will move so fast you’ll need a strobe light to see it. Sweet dreams…”. Going by Musk’s tweet, we will see well-equipped robots that can lightning fast speeds. Well, there is nothing to fear( at least until these terrifying robots threaten the existence of humanity like we see in movies).
