Review : Vishwaroopam 2 – Boring treat

Actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan’s last outing, Vishwaroopam 2 has been in the news for quite some time now. After a long delay, this sequel to the 2013 spy-thriller has finally hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.

Story:

Wisam Ahmad Kashmiri (Kamal Haasan), a RAW agent takes up a mission to clean up the terrorist camps and migrates to Pakistan with the help of his team members(Shekhar Kapur, Andrea). Soon after reaching there Wisam joins a terrorist agency and communicate with the Indian army regarding their activities. Rest of the story is how Wisam decodes the terrorist’s secrets and successfully completes the mission by killing the Al-Qaeda gang head. To know in detail about the proceedings, yo have to watch the film on the silver screen.

Analysis:

Kamal Haasan, who directed this sequel has failed to keep up the same momentum as like the first part. In this second installment, most of the film runs with lengthy conversations and lacks proper depth in the narration. The entire first half is boring and has no action episodes either. Though the latter part has a few fight sequences they are picturized on a lesser scale and looks over the top at times. Coming to artists performance, Kamal Haasan as a RAW agent is perfect and tried his best to bring life to the proceedings with his screen presence. His getup and mannerisms in the flashback episode are good and apt to the film’s mood. Heroine Pooja Kumar is appealing on screen and has done her bit of performance decently. Bollywood actor Rahul Bose did an okayish job as a terrorist gang head. Shekar Kapur and Andrea are good in their supporting roles and RAW officers.

Plus Points:

Kamal Haasan’s screen presence

A few blocks in the flashback

Minus Points:

Simple and direction less storyline

Boring and unengaging narration

Action episodes are not up to the mark

Verdict:

All in all, Vishwaroopam 2 is a disappointing outing from Kamal Haasan as it is nowhere match to the first part. Boring narration, lackluster proceedings and lengthy conversations throughout the film make it a boring watch this weekend.
