The president of India, Ram Nath Kovind took a surprising decision of sorts. This decision is regarding the 65th national film awards. It has been a tradition that the president participates in the event and hands over the awards to the winners in respective departments. However, that is not going to be the case this time.
Apparently, the president has allotted an appointment for just 1-hour to the event. This indicates that very few awardees will be getting the chance to receive the prizes from the hands of the president. The total number of awardees are 140 and only 11 of them will be awarded by the president. The film circles are disappointed with the decision as many believe that it is an honor to receive the prestigious award from the president of the nation.
The news is that the remaining awards will be presented by the minister of Information and broadcasting, Smriti Irani. This was not the case last time as Pranab Mukherjee stayed for the entirety of the event and presented the awards to the winners.
