Jagan’s ‘Kanna’ plan against TDP?

Andhra Pradesh opposition leader, YS Jagan is slowly evolving as a political mastermind. The YCP chief was successful in creating a tensed atmosphere between TDP and BJP, eventually leading to a break up between both the parties. Many political experts, including BJP leaders, stated that Jagan played a key role in damaging the bond between these parties.

The latest we hear is that YS Jagan is behind Kanna’s promotion as the president of BJP AP cell. Coming from Kapu community, Kanna is a prominent leader in coastal Andhra. Interestingly, BJP is promoting itself as a Kapu-favoured party by allotting key positions in the party to Kapu community leaders. If the political trends are anything to go by, there is a good chance that Kanna may lose a good chunk of his supporters if he joins YSRCP. This can come in handy for TDP as they can cash in on the vacuum and turn the Kapu voters towards their side.

With all this in mind, YS Jagan has come to a conclusion that it is a wise move to keep Kanna in BJP and get support from the saffron party if needed, rather than bringing him in and losing the vote share. This would be one of the reasons behind Kanna’s sudden health problem episode which happened just before the stage was set for him to join YCP.

It needs to be seen if Jagan’s Kanna plan against TDP can increase YCP’s chances of making it to power in 2019.
